by John Rittenoure - ENID, Okla. (August 7, 2021) - It has been a long time coming, but Dustin Allen found his way back to the winners circle Saturday night at Enid Speedway.
Allen won his career first Complete Well Testing Sooner Late Model Series A-Feature in the season opener at Crawford County Speedway. Since then Allen only logged two more top 10 finishes over six events. Now he has one more.
Allen drove past early leader Lee Allen after just a couple of laps then pulled out to a large lead on the Enid Speedway 3/8’s mile oval. Meanwhile, Kip Hughes was charging his way through the field from his 11th place starting position working his way to third behind AJ Brochu who passed Allen for second.
With no yellow flags it appeared Allen would win by a large margin until the yellow finally waved on lap 22. That allowed the field to restart on Allen’s rear bumper. On the restart Hughes shot around Brochu for second and was hoping for a shot at the leader. But Allen pulled away for his second victory leaving Hughes with second and Brochu third. Eddie Tidwell finished fourth ahead of Bobby McGehee in fifth and points leader Hayden Ross in sixth.
After 16 events Ross continues to lead the points chase by 85 points over 3-time defending champion Hughes.
The next Complete Well Testing Sooner Late Model Series event is Saturday, August 14, at Oklahoma Sports Park.
