Hughes rolls to Sooner Series victory at Monarch Motor Speedway


by John Rittenoure - WICHITA FALLS, Texas (June 18, 2021) - Coming from sixth starting position, three-time defending champion Kip Hughes drove from sixth starting position to win the Complete Well Testing Sooner Late Model Series feature Friday at Monarch Motor Speedway.

Winning for the third time this season, Hughes was chased to the checkered by third starting Zach Nickell. Kaleb Roach came from the rear of the field to claim third while pole sitter Gary Lowe fell to fourth and Damian Patocka held on to fifth.

The Sooner Late Model Series was formed in 2016 by Enid Speedway co-promoter Mark Brill. Brill felt there was not many opportunities for late model competitors to race in Oklahoma and the Sooner Late Model Series was formed. Now the series has grown beyond the borders of Oklahoma with events held in the neighboring states of Kansas, Texas and Arkansas as well.
