Sooner Late Models set to converge on Belleville High Banks



by John Rittenoure - TULSA, Okla. (June 7, 2021) - Late model stock cars will converge on the famed Belleville High Banks in Belleville, Kansas on Saturday for the Kansas-Sooner Klash.

It will be the first visit to the 23-degree banked Belleville half-mile for the Complete Well Testing Sooner Late Model Series.

The race will see open motor and crate motor late models racing together with added money on line for the Kansas-Sooner showdown. The feature winner will earn $1,000 and the highest finishing crate motor late model will also earn $1,000. The race pays $400-to-start.

Sooner Limited Modifieds will also tackle the high banks with the feature paying $1,000-to-win and $350-to-start.

Cruisers and mini stocks will be racing on the small track.

Leading the CWT Sooner Late Model Series point standings is 18-year old Hayden Ross of Muskogee, Oklahoma. The teenager is still looking for his first series victory, but leads the standings with a consistent 7 top 5 finishes in 9 events. Right behind, with two feature victories, is three-time defending series champion Kip Hughes of Enid, Oklahoma. Kaleb Roach of Woodward, Oklahoma is third while Indiana driver Joe Godsey, who has a victory this year on Muskogee’s Thunderbird Speedway half-mile, sits in fourth, and Enid’s Dustin Allen, with one feature win, is fifth.

Veteran Delbert Smith and son Daniel Smith of Wichita have competed with the Sooner Series on a limited basis and Delbert won the most recent stop at 81 Speedway.

Gates open at 5 p.m. on Saturday, hot laps at 6:30 with racing getting underway at 7:30.

Ticket prices are: $20 adult, $10 for 12 and under, 6 and under are FREE.
