John Rittenoure - TULSA, Okla. (April 10, 2023) - Weather has played havoc with the Complete Well Testing Sooner Late Model Series season opener to date, but we will try again this weekend to get the 2023 season underway.
Thunderbird Speedway in Muskogee will host the 2023 season opener on Friday. This will be the third attempt at getting the Sooner Series season underway and the fourth attempt for Thunderbird to open their season. Racing will start at 8 p.m. on the historic half-mile.
The Sooner Series moves on to Tulsa Speedway on Saturday for the first of two events this season.
The quarter-mile oval has undergone some renovations in the off season. The turns have been widened and the backstretch wall has been moved out some coming out of turn two. Additional clay has been added as well as more pit and track lighting.
Racing at the revamped Tulsa Speedway is set for 7 p.m.

Sooner Late Model Series
The Sooner Late Model Series was formed in 2016 by Enid Speedway co-promoter Mark Brill. Brill felt there was not many opportunities for late model competitors to race in Oklahoma and the Sooner Late Model Series was formed. Now the series has grown beyond the borders of Oklahoma with events held in the neighboring states of Kansas, Texas and Arkansas as well.
